Thomas Tuchel remains calm as Chelsea overcome struggles to beat Crystal Palace
Tuchel and his players acknowledged that post-match, saying the victory was the most important result of the London derby in the capital.
Andreas Christensen said: “It’s been tough and mentally exhausting but we’re doing everything we can to recover well and it’s been a tough way to get back into the Premier League.
“But we got the three points, which was the most important thing for us at the moment. Like I said, it’s not our level but we’ll take it.”
He added: “How does a week like this work, we’ve just had a 30 degree temperature difference, we have six players with air conditioning colds on the plane, we’ve got jet lag from Abu Dhabi, we don’t We haven’t had any players who slept well in Abu Dhabi because of the weather and jet lag, so it’s the same here.
“If you think we have a normal week to prepare for, I can just tell you it’s not like that. We’re trying to survive right now and you can see that.
“There’s a lot of pressure if you go to a World Cup and you want to win it for Chelsea. The players put a lot of pressure on themselves and we haven’t played in the Premier League for four weeks. It’s huge and strange mix of a lot of reasons why I personally didn’t expect too much from today in terms of performance.
“Then we had problems in training with Azpi (Cesar Azpilicueta) and Callum Hudson-Odoi came out of training. So that’s where we are and that’s how it is. I know we can play better, that we want to play better.”
