Shakib Al Hasan (108 wickets) became the largest wicket taker of T20I. It exceeded Lasith Malinga’s count of 107 wickets.
Two completely different matches were observed on the first day of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. While Oman comfortably beat Papua New Guinea by 10 wickets in the first clash, the evening game saw Scotland upset Bangladesh. With several players providing a commendable spectacle on the 22m, fans had a blast and it would be interesting to see how the World Tournament unfolds.
Speaking of the first match, Oman invited PNG after winning the draw at Al Amerat Cricket Ground. The bowlers justified the decision by going through PNG’s batting order. Only Assad Vala (56) and Charles Amini (37) were able to play substantial shots while PNG posted 129/9. However, Oman did not sweat when crossing the line. Forerunners Jatinder Singh and Aqib Ilyas shattered half centuries as Oman won the match by 10 wickets.
The second game saw Bangladesh take on Scotland at the same venue. The Bangla Tigers chose to bowling and got off to a great start in the contest. Mahedi Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan made the ball talk as Scotland were limited to 53/6. However, Chris Greaves scored a quickfire 45 and took his side at 140/9.
Chasing the target, Bangladesh lost the first two games cheaply. However, figures like Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah made useful contributions as the game went on to the end. But the Bangla Tigers could only manage 134/7 and subsequently lost the game by six points.
