How to help support Brazos Valley Gives this year

BRYAN, Texas – Giving season is just around the corner and a Brazos Valley nonprofit is rallying community support for those in need most.

The pandemic has pulled major fundraising events at nonprofits like the Brazos Valley Center for Independent Living. However, with Brazos Valley Gives, the community can always come together to support each other.

BVCIL provides people with disabilities with peer support, soft skills training and other services to help them live independently.

“It’s very important for people with disabilities to get this independence,” said Shelby Catron, office and communications manager for BVCIL.

And with the help of the community, BVCIL can continue to achieve this goal.

“Brazos Valley Gives is a one-day event, it’s all online, it caters to all nonprofits in the Brazos Valley region,” said Kathryn Pasha, Independent Life Facilitator for BVCIL.

The first donations are Open to the public before the big day of the donation.

But every organization also makes a big effort.

“We have our art tile project which is, for a donation of $ 20, you can come and pick up an art tile, take it home and decorate it however you like, bring it back and we’ll exhibit it. “Pasha added.

BVCIL says it is there to help all people, regardless of age or disability.

“Whatever the need, we remain fully integrated into the community, whether it’s to improve job skills, help find a job,” explained Catron.

Many have new jobs thanks to their services.

But one of their most sought-after aids is transportation.

“Transportation, we organize night weekends and holidays, you know, if there is no other option in the area, we will help people to get to the grocery store, to get to make it to family reunions, ”Catron said.

Give people with disabilities the confidence to achieve their goals.

“We recognize the importance that people are always included in their daily lives,” said Catron.

Every Friday BVCIL will be highlighting one of their many different services, so you can learn more about everything they do to make a positive impact on the community.
