Hamad Port takes an important step in worker safety

QTerminals, the terminal operating company providing services to the Port of Hamad, announced yesterday that it has reached five million Lost Time Labor Hours (LTI) in operations at the Port of Hamd.

“We are very happy to announce that today (August 5, 2021) #QTerminals #HamadPort completed five million hours of work without any Lost Time Injury (LTI),” QTermianls said in a tweet. .

He added, “Congratulations to the QTerminals HSE team, all QTerminals staff and our contractors for taking this important security milestone. The security of persons is the first law ”.

Earlier in May of this year, QTerminals had made progress as its operations at the Port of Hamad had reached four million working hours without any Lost Time Injury (LTI).

As of February 17 of this year, QTerminals operations at Hamad Port had reached three million man-hours without LTI while the company had reached two million man-hours without any LTI in Hamad Port operations on the 1st. December of last year.

Hamad Port crossed the worker safety milestone in September 2020 when QTerminals operations at Hamad Port reached one million working hours without LTI.

Meanwhile, the ports of Qatar (Port of Hamad, Port of Doha and Port of Ruwais) also saw an increase in traffic in July of this year. According to a recent tweet from Mwani Qatar, the ports received 298 ships in July 2021, an increase of 8% from the same period last year. RORO units, livestock and building materials grew by 59%, 28% and 27% respectively.

In February this year, QTerminals and its development partners also announced that they had reached four million working hours without LTI during the construction of Container Terminal 2 (CT2) at the Port of Hamad.

Initial operation of the container terminal at the Port of Hamad also began in December last year. The development of CT2 consists of four phases.

Full operation of Phases 1 and 2 will begin before the end of 2022, bringing the port’s capacity to three million TEUs per year. Phases 3 and 4 will be further developed to increase the operational capacity of the port according to the needs of the local market.
