Cardinal Berhaneyesus made the remarks in his official message to all public and private media ahead of the Ethiopian Passover.

Ethiopian Easter: April 24, 2022

Ethiopia, like Eastern Orthodox believers, follows the Julian calendar, not the secular Gregorian calendar. Therefore for Ethiopia, this year Easter falls on Sunday, April 24, 2022.

“When Abel died, his blood cried out to God. This incident has a powerful message: the death of an innocent victim is brought to the knowledge of God. In particular, the blood of an innocent person is significant. The resurrection of Christ is therefore the answer to all the cries of Abel,” the Prelate of Addis said.

Overcome hate with love

“The resurrection of Christ empowers every Christian to overcome all evil and all sin. Today, through the Cross of Christ, we can overcome hatred with love, revenge with forgiveness, pain with joy, conflict with dialogue, endurance with perseverance and Christian hope. said Cardinal Berhaneyesus.

According to the Cardinal, the Ethiopian Catholic Bishops’ Conference invites the faithful to implore the King of Peace, “Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ”, to grant true peace to Ethiopia. They urge all people of good will to pray together for all people who are suffering gravely because of war.

Mercy, reconciliation and peace

The bishop entrusts all Catholics with the task of pleading for mercy, reconciliation and peace for the dear Ethiopian homeland.

“May our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the God of peace, grant us peace on our earth. In the name of the risen Jesus Christ, we implore (the authorities) concerned to facilitate access so that emergency humanitarian aid can reach those who need it most at this time. And may the risen Christ receive into his kingdom all those who died in war. May he also comfort those who mourn,” the cardinal said.
