Chelsea must overcome ‘significant hurdle’ before player exit
Chelsea still need to clear a ‘significant hurdle’ in transfer talks with Inter Milan before Romelu Lukaku is loaned to the Italian side this summer.
According to The Athletic, talks are ongoing over a transfer that would see Lukaku leave Chelsea and join Inter Milan just a year after leaving them.
It is explained that the Serie A club are ready to pay the 29-year-old’s full salary as part of a loan deal. An improved offer is therefore expected after the rejection of a first approach by the Blues.
The report explains that the financial part of the loan transfer should not be a problem, with the general feeling that an agreement can be reached between all parties.
The Athletic article, however, mentions a potential banana peel.
It has been claimed that Chelsea have a “significant hurdle” when it comes to players moving in the opposite direction. Thomas Tuchel’s side will be in desperate need of a new No.9 next season if he sells Belgian leader Lukaku during this window.
Chelsea’s links with Inter players have already been frequent this summer, so hopefully there will be deals struck to help both. For example, the Blues are said to be interested in Inter quartet Lautaro Martinez, Milan Skriniar, Alessandro Bastoni and Denzel Dumfries.
Lukaku at Inter Milan
This latest report certainly seems to suggest that Inter will make a counter offer and request a loan to re-sign Lukaku.
The striker had a disappointing 2021/22 campaign at Stamford Bridge so to draw a line under and start again at a familiar home at the San Siro seems best for the player.
However, Chelsea need to make sure he takes care of themselves.
It’s getting to a point where teams around the Blues are making some impressive signings, so fans are getting a little worried.
They need to use Lukaku’s leverage with Inter to potentially attract some of their players, especially the talented defenders linked with a move to London. It feels like there must be a solid plan for the centre-forward position if Lukaku goes there too.
