Central Bark Celebrates National Ice Cream Day to Benefit Adoptable Lost Animals of Amarillo | KAMR

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR / KCIT) – Sunday is National Ice Cream Day and a local business has decided to celebrate in a very unique way.

At Central Bark, dozens of dogs and their owners came out to help celebrate and find dogs their forever homes.

“Whenever we have an event like this, we offer dogs for adoption. Today we are working with lost animals. They have brought dogs in and out for adoption, which is why we are doing this to adopt dogs that might otherwise not be seen by the public, ”said LaDon Paige, owner of Central Bark .

Crystal Dennis, with Adoptable Lost Pets of Amarillo, said Amarillo’s lost pet problem was getting worse.

“The rescues have been really overwhelmed lately. We got calls every day, we get messages on Facebook. People find dogs that cannot find their owners. It’s really bad right now, ”Dennis said.

Each dog received a free hand-made ‘pusicle’ and Marble Slab Creamery was also on hand to provide ice cream to their owners as well. In addition to the ice cream, there were games, raffles and the possibility of making animal portraits.

Paige said they opened just before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, but were able to stay open because it was a critical business as they looked after the dogs of first responders.

Paige added that it was nice to be back full time from the pandemic and celebrating.

“We get new dogs every day, our boarding is limited, but we stay full and it’s just great to watch the dogs swim and play. Just busy, busy all day, ”Paige said.

Paige added that if you weren’t able to attend the event on Sunday, but would like to learn more about how to adopt a pet or more information on local agencies in town. , they can contact Central Bark.
