4 players Man Utd can sign to fulfill Erik ten Hag’s wish if Christian Eriksen snubs the move

If Christian Eriksen turns down a move to Old Trafford, Manchester United may have to look elsewhere.

Following his short-term contract with Brentford, the attacking midfielder is being pursued by a number of clubs, while the Bees are keen to keep him on a longer-term deal.

Erik ten Hag, the Red Devils’ new manager, is reportedly looking for a veteran player aged 30 or over to give his side more experience next season.

And Sports Dias looks at four players the 13-time Premier League winners could sign if Eriksen decides not to join United.

N’Golo Kante

N’Golo Kante has been one of the Premier League’s most notable performances since arriving from Caen in 2015.

The 31-year-old won the Premier League title with Leicester in 2016 and then repeated the feat with Chelsea in 2017. He also won the Champions League and World Cup with France.

Last season Kante suffered from a series of ailments and Blues manager Thomas Tuchel admitted he feared he wouldn’t have the midfielder available for longer periods.

The player’s current deal expires in a year, so Tuchel might be willing to sanction a summer move if United offer the right deal.

Casemiro

Ten Hag is desperate for a new defensive midfielder, and if he can’t persuade Kante to leave Chelsea, the Dutchman could try to sign Casemiro from Real Madrid.

United have been linked with the 30-year-old for some time but no deal has been agreed.

That could change this summer if Ten Hag manages to persuade the player that a move to England would benefit him.

Casemiro has five Champions League crowns with Real Madrid and started last month’s Champions League triumph against Liverpool. To sign him, United will have to make a substantial offer.

Joao Moutinho

Wolves midfielder Joao Moutinho is out of contract this summer and has yet to sign a new contract at Black Country.

His best years are behind him at the age of 35, but with 145 games for Portugal and the Euro 2016 title under his belt, the ace can still play a role at the top of the Premier League.

Moutinho has appeared in 176 games for Wolves since joining from Monaco in 2018. And Ten Hag can believe the player is valuable to United.

Ben Foster

Ben Foster, 39, is another veteran who is out of contract this summer. The goalkeeper was a member of Watford’s Premier League relegation squad last season and is set to leave the club this summer.

Foster started his career with the Red Devils, where he spent five years under Sir Alex Ferguson.

And if he returns to Old Trafford, he may be able to advise the players on what made the team so successful when the famous Scotsman was in charge.
