2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer in Malaysia – RM130,900, 1,160cc triple, 148hp, 130Nm of torque

Following the announcement by Fast Bikes distributors in February, the 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer is now in Malaysia, priced at RM130,900. This high-end Triumph adventure machine comes in two variants, the base model available in Sapphire Black or Snowdonia White at RM130,900, while the Matte Khaki Tiger 2100 Rally Explorer 1200 goes for RM131,900, an RM1, 000 bonus.

The Tiger 1200’s all-new, liquid-cooled, DOHC, 12-valve, 1160cc T-crank inline-triple engine develops 148hp at 9000rpm with 130Nm of torque available at 7000 rpm. For comparison, the BMW Motorrad R1250 GSA – RM136,500 in Malaysia – with its boxer-twin develops 136 hp at 7,750 rpm and 143 Nm of torque at 6,250 rpm.

The fuel capacity of the Explorer version of the Tiger 1200 is 30 liters, the same as the R1250 GSA. The Tiger 1200’s power goes to the ground via a six-speed gearbox and shaft final drive, while tubeless-spoke wheel sizes are 21-inches up front and 18-inches out. rear, equipped with Metzeler Karoo Street rubber 90/90 at the front and 150/70 at the rear.

Six riding modes are available in the suite of rider aids – Road, Rain, Sport, Rider-configurable, Off-Road and Off-Road Pro – while Optimized Cornering Traction Control is standard. Also standard on the Rally Explorer is Triumph‘s blind spot radar system, developed in partnership with Continental.

The system provides Blind Spot Assist using rear-facing radar to notify the driver when another vehicle is in their blind spot, and Lane Change Assist, which warns if the driver indicates to change lanes and that a vehicle is approaching.

Front suspension is provided by 49 mm diameter inverted semi-damped Showa forks, while the rear is supported by a Showa monoshock with semi-active damping and electronic preload adjustment, with a Same suspension travel at both ends at 220mm. Brembo supplies M4.32 Stylema brake calipers for the front, squeezing twin 320mm floating discs, with a Magura HC1 adjustable-span radial master cylinder with dual-channel ABS as standard.

Weighing 261kg with a 90% full fuel tank, the Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer comes with a two-position adjustable seat, placing the rider 875mm or 890mm off the ground. Inside the cockpit, a 7-inch TFT-LCD screen features Bluetooth smartphone connectivity allowing for phone calls, turn-by-turn navigation and GoPro control.

The list of riding conveniences is completed with cruise control, heated grips, heated seat, USB charging port and type of pressure monitoring system. Also standard is Triumph Shift Assist for clutch gear changes and Hill Hold Control for starting on a steep incline.
